Small gestures lead to massive societal changes.
“Your character is largely defined not by how you treat those who can do the most for you, but how you treat those who can do nothing for you.
Every time you look down upon someone who can’t fill your cup, you’re cutting a bigger hole in the bottom of your cup.
Compassion >.”
-Ray Zingler on Twitter
It’s easy to treat the folks who can do the most for you, well, but what about the folks who can do nothing for you?
The people who can advance your position in life, it’s easy to kiss butt and be “grateful” for selfish reasons.
But the person who has no ability to advance your position in life, who by many accounts, is a “burden” on your life? Screw that guy, right?
Wrong.
How you treat the people who can do absolutely nothing for you is what defines your character as an individual.
Life goes fast.
Everybody has things to do.
Everybody is busy.
Many people believe that “their world” is “the world” while “their world” is merely their perception from an extraordinarily limited lens of reality.
You want to make a difference in humanity, treat the people who can do nothing for you, well.
You want to change the world?
Go out of your way, yes out of your own way, to do things for people who can do nothing for you.
Lend them a hand.
Buy them a sandwich.
Hold the door for them.
Hell, just say thank you.
These seemingly small, simple gestures which you’d think would be common knowledge (common ain’t common no more) in today’s world have profound implications on society.
Maybe not on a mass scale initially, but what would acting like this regularly do in your neighborhood, your town, your school do?
What if your actions inspired the actions of another and this whole compassion thing grew some legs?
I’ll tell you what it’d do.
It’d change the world.
The world that is currently being manipulated by the extremes on both ends of the spectrum.
The extremes that are causing common, rational folks to believe that “we can’t fix it.”
Bullshit.
Put your foot in the ground and make a micro difference.
Micro differences manifest themselves as macro differences and this goes for about damn near anything in life.
You want fulfillment? Turn your TV off and go do something today for somebody who can do nothing for you. You’ll be blown away by how it makes you feel.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
-Margaret Mead
