Stay (far) away from them.
“There are 3 people who will discourage females from getting strong in the weight room:
The Clueless.
Weak, Fragile Men.
Judgmental Women.
Pro Tip:
Stay the hell away from clueless, weak, fragile, judgmental people. It will serve you well in every are of life.”
-Ray Zingler on Twitter
Fortunately, we are making strides in the female athletic development department, however we are not even remotely close to where to need to be societally.
Decades debunked wives tails, clueless coaches, and misconceptions are still rampant and ruining it for the developing ladies on the grand scheme.
You’ll have some who reside in Camp 1 and argue, “but yeah, they’re training, they go to speed and agility.”
Ladder and cone speed & agility isn’t “speed & agility”, it’s a palatable term the unknowing use to fool more of the unknowing that they are doing “something”.
And yes, they are doing something, but what they think they are doing (training) and what they are actually doing (wasting time) is where the discrepancy lies.
Next up to screw it up for them is Camp 2. In Camp 2, you have weak, fragile men. These men are fearful of strong, powerful women so instead of encouraging them to do what they should actually be doing (strength training) they stick, again, to the more palatable encouragement of doing things that are going to continue to drive the perceived desired outcome of women being “weak and powerless”
There are a lot of carry over between all 3 camps, but camps 1 & 2 especially.
Got to love the out of shape adult male telling a growing, thriving, teenage female that strength training is “bad for her” and will “slow her down.”
Finally Camp 3, the judgmental woman.
“You strength train!? You’re going to get bulky.”
“You lift weights? That’s manly!”
Listen up ladies, I want to make a point abundantly clear. You have males all around you, young and old, who go to lame fitness centers every single day with the sole goal of TRYING to get bulky. They are literally trying to. And with their (often minimal) testosterone infused bodies, guess what, they still CAN’T do it. Get bulky.
Do you think with female hormones and eating a balanced diet, getting strong, fast, and powerful is going to make you “manly”?
Of course it won’t. Strength training will enhance everything about you.
I don’t know a lot of things, but I do know this:
Stay the hell away from clueless, weak, fragile, and judgmental people.
Your life’s quality will be infinitely better.
