Stereotypes Are Dangerous To Your Personal Growth

The picture big brother is painting for you isn't the real picture.

The picture big brother is painting for you isn’t the real picture.

“I was in Bucee’s the other day.

Black, white, hispanic, gay, straight, blue hair, blonde hair, cowboy boots, biker jackets, & some air force ones, too.

You know how many people were raising hell on each other?

Zero.

That real America.

You just won’t ever hear about it.”

If you were to take a look at me, you’d probably make some initial assumptions.

A bearded dude with a 2500 Ram 4×4 on 35” All-Terrains and a lifted ’84 Model Chevy K10 Square Body on Mud Tires with a yard full of pit/bulldogs and chickens, who likes hunting, lifting weights, and classic country music.

There’s your redneck Trump fan who hates people who are different than him, right?

Despite the above being completely untrue (I mean completely) that’s the picture society wants you to paint of me.

It’s the same type of picture they want people “like me” to paint of the “liberal vegan freak who hates America” simply because a person may look or have different preferences than me.

And if we’re not self-aware of the fact that Big Brother and the Mainstream Media are calculatedly using the very, very few squeaky wheels on the extreme ends of the spectrum to drive mass division, we will fall into the trap.

We will be the exact pawns they want us to be as they try to manipulate us for personal and especially financial gain.

But the fact of the matter is this:

The vast majority of people are in the middle.

Of course, America will always be a melting pot (which is what makes it great) and people will always have different backgrounds, viewpoints, and lifestyle preferences, but if you think you have to hate someone who is different than you because they hate you in return, the false political portrayal of “how things are” has it’s grip on you.

I assure that I am not ignorant to the fact that there are bad people everywhere, but the fact of the matter is that most people are decent people.

In a world that is moving fast and in many ways “progressing”, (maybe technically, but certainly not relationally). Take a step back.

Realize that stereotype you’ve got pounded into your head isn’t always going to be true. In fact, most times they are untrue.

That <insert race, creed, color that is different than you> is always <derogatory statement> usually isn’t true.

And if you overcome your natural inclination to judge, you’ll never see a perfect world, but you’ll see one that’s damn better looking than the one they are trying to convince you of.
