Better is better.
“The downside to an abundance of information is that it can lead to paralysis by analysis.
We mustn’t forget, training is just a stimulus.
Front squats, back squats, leg presses, they all work..
How (consistently) well you do what you do matters far more than what you do.”
-Ray Zingler on Twitter
In the modern (training) world, we have no shortage of access to information.
On one side of the spectrum we have people who ignore the science all together and create their own guru-esqe bro bullshit and sell it to people who don’t know any better..
And on the other side we have people whom are too smart for their own good, who spend copious amounts of time consuming all the research, which leaves them stuck in their own way.
At the end of the day, you can read research that will tell you eggs are good for you and then you can read research that will tell you eggs are bad for you.
Like most things in life, I tend to drift closer to the middle (still definitely erring on the research backed side).
The reason being is because I’ve found that it all works. Seriously, it does.
Now don’t get me wrong, obviously I’m not ignorant to the fact that we still have to challenge the body so that it will continue to adapt and improve, but how we go about that, matters far less than people think.
People think it’s in a ‘secret’ program (typically one the confirms their biases).
A specialized set and rep scheme.
Or consistently “changing it up”.
The reason people think this way is for no other reason than there are an unlimited number of ways to skin the cat.
A decade ago, we used the term “program hop”. Most people don’t even do that anymore because they aren’t even on a program to be able to hop from to begin with. They’re simply combining 87 different programs they “heard” about and implement “a little this” and “a little that” to try to hit all the touch points. What they fail to understand is that the reason they aren’t making progress is because they are missing the key ingredients: consistency and quality.
It’s not rocket science. We make it rocket science.
You want to make progress?
Pick a program. I don’t care what it is, but whatever you pick, go all in. Put the blinders on and consistently work your ass off. Not for 3 weeks. Do it for 6 months.
If your progress stalls change it up. If it doesn’t, continue.
You’ll find that consistent effort is the “secret”.
