You have no business training anyone at any level.
“If training.. Real, ass busting, meticulously planned and progressed training, is not a Top 4 priority in your life, you have no business training anyone at any level.
To talk the talk, walking the walk is a non-negotiable prerequisite.
They know when you ain’t about it, too.”
-Ray Zingler
You don’t have to be able to lift a certain amount of weight.
You don’t have to be an avid marathoner.
You don’t even have to bench press on Monday’s.
But you gotta train hard.
And no, I don’t mean go down to the local fitness center a couple times per week and randomly move your limbs.
Going for walks in your neighborhood don’t count, either.
While the above two forms of exercise are incredible ideas for most people (I regularly encourage them), they don’t fit the bill for a strength coach or any fitness professional, in any role.
I don’t care if you’re the Strength Coach for the Dallas Cowboys, or you’ve accepted a position as a strength coach at a High School, a position which might be more than you initially signed up for that is above your level of competence.
The reason is again, not because how much you deadlift matters, the reason is because if you’re going to ask someone to bust their ass, you damn sure better be doing it, too.
22 or 62, it don’t matter.
Training, and I’m talking REAL, ass busting, sweat pouring, meticulously planned & progressed training, not the random exercise examples listed above, is critical.
Personally training hard, yourself, is not only something any coach or trainer should be taking pride in, it should be a Top 4 priority in their life.
And the reason is because of the magnitude of the responsibility associated with teaching, leading, & guiding others in the realm of physical fitness.
How are you going to teach them to take pride in it, if you don’t take pride in it yourself?
Is your failure to lead by example going to teach them how to positively associate with Strength & Fitness in their own lives?
If you’re not going to live the code and lead them and you’re in a position to be able to do so, get the hell out of their way.
Our kids are growing up in a world where physical culture is dying because they aren’t led properly.
If you’re going to talk any talk, and I mean any talk, walk the hell out of the walk.
Be about it.
