Most Fall Off The Health & Fitness Wagon Because Of The Desire To Be Constantly Entertained

Not only is "boring" okay in health & fitness, it's a good indication you're where you need to be.

Not only is “boring” okay in health & fitness, it’s a good indication you’re where you need to be.

“A major problem in training & why people fall off the wagon is because they feel the need to be constantly entertained.

One of the biggest keys in training is learning to not only accept, but appreciate boring.

It’s not a game of chasing shiny red balls.

It’s a discipline.”

Everybody has great goals.

Great intentions.

Super organized New Year’s Resolutions.

And to take it a step further, everybody knows what to do, too.

After all, getting and staying in shape isn’t rocket science.

But if information is readily available and the concept is so simple, then why do must struggle with it?

2 reasons.

1)  They lack the discipline to make the correct choices (related to health and wellness).

2)  They constantly feel the need to be entertained (which leads to a lack of discipline).

We lead lives where we’ve all but waxed the concept of boredom.

With our phones, we can now literally fill every waking minute of our days with stuff. Usually shitty stuff, but stuff nonetheless.

The modern human mind doesn’t know how to be bored anymore, much less understand that boredom is okay.

Therefore, the vast majority of consumers with gym memberships:

1) Don’t use them

2) Gym hop every 90 days.

It’s easy to have Jocko Willink discipline for two weeks.

And some can even David Goggins it for two months.

But most fall out the wagon as soon as they get into the exact groove they NEED to be in.

Of course, after two months the newbie gains slow down.

Of course, now that the habit is built and you have routine, that honeymoon excitement is going to be mostly over.

But instead of looking at this as a positive thing (permanent lifestyle modification) most look at is as a negative (temporary choice) and this is precisely why people spin their wheels with this whole health and fitness thing.

I’m not implying that fitness must be agonizingly miserable.

I’m not saying it must be mundane or boring all the time, either.

But I will tell you this..

It’s okay if for periods of time, it is. Even long periods of time.

If you can train your mind and body to do what you need to do whether or not zeal is associated with the construct (think brushing your teeth) there is a pretty damn good chance, you’ll win.

The people who have their shit together with their health and fitness don’t have the most advanced or exciting workouts.

They’re just better at discipline than you.

Embrace boring in health and fitness.

There’s value in it.
