Why? Because you aren’t trying to go to the same places they are aimlessly falling to.
“If you want to maximize your potential and ‘get to the next level’ you don’t get to act how everybody else acts.
You have to live and act differently.
‘Well she doesn’t do..’
‘He gets away without..’
Nonsense.
If you’re trying to be YOUR best, you have to run YOUR race.”

It’s likely the advice I repeat more than any other.
The minute a kid expresses to me that they want to be the best they can be or to play/excel at the next level, I break the news to them.
“You don’t get to act like everybody else. You don’t get to walk how they walk, talk how they talk, or do what they do.”
You can’t stay out all night drinking like a fish. You can’t do drugs like all the “cOoL kId’S” (losers).
You may have to sit that party out or come home a bit early to get your rest for that obligation you have in the morning.
Why? Because you aren’t trying to go to the same places they are aimlessly falling to.
On the other side of the coin, you can’t compare yourself to those athletes that seem to have everything come to them easily.
“That kid doesn’t even train and he’s one of the best athletes on the field.”
“It seems like she is never doing extra work on her own and missing practice, but she still plays in the games.”
It doesn’t matter.
You don’t have their genetics. Their lifestyle. Their habits that you may not see.
You have yours.
And if you want to be effective with your time you must water YOUR grass and run YOUR race.
I say it every single day, “control what you can control and then control how you react to what you can’t.”
Can you control your effort? Your discipline to do what needs to be done? Can you get to sleep on time? Can you eat a nutritious breakfast? Can you remove yourself from environments that may lead to unwise choices that have potential negative implications on who you want to be or where you want to go?
It’s not always easy, but you’re damn right you can.
Control those things.
Can you peak over the fence and pay attention to what they’re doing over there? You can, but can you control it? Never. So what’s the value?
Put blinders on. Do what YOU need to do to be the best YOU can be.
It takes time, but I reckon you’ll be pleased with the results when it’s all said and done.
