5 Things In Business That Matter Far More Than 'What You Do'

Business is far less about your craft and far more about how much you care about people.

Business is far less about your craft and far more about how much you care about people.

“Top 5 things in business that matter far more than what you do:

  1. How you treat people.

  2. How you make people feel.

  3. How well you communicate.

  4. Your dedication to the truth.

  5. Your dedication to being on time.

The ‘small’ things are actually the big things.”

Delivering a great product is important.

But this is common knowledge if you want even a mere shot at standing the test of time in business.

Far more important than what you do for a living is how well you prioritize others on the other end of the transaction.

This goes from plumbing to strength & conditioning and everywhere in between.

1)  How you treat people. Do you treat them like numbers and dollar signs, or do you treat them like the important people they are? Do you constantly think of ways to improve their experiences so that you can better serve them? This matters more than anything.

2)  How you make people feel. Everyone knows the quote: “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” There is nothing more important than prioritizing making others feel great. When you make others feel great, they want to be around you. And while this is great for “business” it’s even better for life.

3)  How well you communicate: Communication is so easy. All you have to is do talk. Hell, you can even text these days. Just value the other person and be clear with your messaging. That’s all it is. But see most people mightily screw this simple notion up. Many people fail not because they don’t have a sufficient product or service, it’s because they are horrible communicators. Communication is some of the lowest hanging fruit in business. Do it well.

4)  Your dedication to the truth: And I don’t mean simply telling the truth in passing or conversation, but in consistently delivering a product rooted in truth. In my line of work, there are a lot of “nice” guys out there selling a shady product because A) They can get away with it & B) The consumer has trouble deciphering right from wrong. These folks always get exposed in due time. Make sure your product is rooted in truth.

5)  Your dedication to being on time: Nothing tells someone how much pride you take in your craft and how much you value their time than by simply being on time, every time. Like communication, timeliness is so easy. It’s just undervalued. Be on time. It’s amazing what it does for you and others.
