If you think, walk, and talk like everybody else, you’ll be just like everybody else.
“Conventional thinking will get you conventional results 100% of the time.
It’s the way most people think and why most people achieve the same end results.
It’s when you invest in and act upon unconventional thinking that you begin to start separating yourself from the pack.”
-Ray Zingler on Twitter
I’m not implying that conventional thinking is dumb thinking. It’s actually a pretty intelligent way to think and that is why most people think conventionally.
The problem with conventional thinking is exactly that though.
If you think like everybody else, walk like everybody else, talk like everybody else, and act like everybody else, guess what..
You’re going to be just like everybody else.
Conventional thinking will drive you right to the epicenter of mediocrity to blend in with the average crowd.
If you don’t want to be average you’re literally not allowed to think and act like “everyone else”.
This is where unconventional thinking comes in and can allow you to differentiate and distance yourself from those on the conveyer belt ride to mediocre town.
You hear people talk all the time about “thinking outside the box” (unconventional thinking) and this isn’t a bad idea, right?
But if you’re new to this unconventional thinking thing, thinking outside the box can be a little bit difficult because many of your “outside the box” thinking ideas have already been acted upon, making them, unfortunately, conventional.
This causes a lot of people to stop thinking outside the box and head straight back for the conveyor belt because it’s “too hard”.
But if you’ve made it this far in the post I am going to teach you the easiest way to think unconventionally, even if you struggle to think (and act) outside the box society wants you in.
It’s painfully simple and it’s right in front of your eyes.
What do most do when anything gets hard? I mean anything.
They stop, right?
Conventional thinking tells them that, “ouch, this (mental, physical, emotional, etc.) thing is hard, so stop right away!” And then they sprint to shelter in search of comfort. They take the easy way out, because, well, it’s conventional.
There is your in.
Right there.
If the vast majority stop because friction hurts (conventional thinking) what do you think happens if you choose to endure the friction (unconventional thinking).
Eventually, over time, you gain a foothold, not only in life, but in the market place.
Doing, especially in today’s world, what most convivence and comfort seekers will never do is the fastest and easiest way to differentiate yourself.
Do what they won’t.
It’s as unconventional as it gets in the modern world.
